Job Description: Sigmatech is seeking an enthusiastic, well qualified, and motivated Cybersecurity Analyst Intern to join its dynamic team. This internship provides hands on experience across multiple areas of cybersecurity, enabling the development of practical skills in a real world environment. The Cybersecurity Analyst Intern supports effective communication and coordination of cybersecurity initiatives while conducting cybersecurity analysis, Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance activities, vulnerability management, incident coordination, and continuous monitoring. This role ensures cybersecurity efforts are aligned with NSSI mission objectives and Department of Defense DoD cybersecurity requirements.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary cybersecurity point of contact for internal teams, leadership, vendors, and mission partners.
- Support the planning, execution, and tracking of cybersecurity projects; evaluate processes, gather feedback, recommend improvements, and maintain accurate documentation of policies, procedures, and technical guidance.
- Coordinate meetings, briefings, audits, assessments, and Risk Management Framework (RMF) milestones to align cybersecurity policies, requirements, and objectives with organizational goals.
- Conduct vulnerability scanning, analysis, and remediation using Department of Defense (DoD) tools, including Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS), Host Based Security System (HBSS) and Endpoint Security System (ESS), Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) Viewer, and Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS).
- Assess system configurations and security controls for compliance with STIGs, Security Requirements Guides (SRGs), and RMF requirements; monitor logs, alerts, and events; identify anomalies; and support escalation and documentation.
- Prepare, maintain, and review RMF documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), Plans of Action and Milestones (POAMs), and continuous monitoring artifacts.
- Support Authorization to Operate (ATO) and Authorization to Connect (ATC) activities, security control assessments, and compliance inspections; coordinate with Security Control Assessors (SCAs), Authorizing Officials (AOs), and audit teams.
- Support cybersecurity incident response activities, including tracking actions and communicating impacts, mitigation progress, and status to leadership and stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver cybersecurity awareness programs and training; provide guidance on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and trends.
- Manage cybersecurity requirements with vendors and third parties; support security reviews and validation of third party technologies or services.
- Identify, assess, and communicate cybersecurity risks; collaborate with risk management teams to implement mitigation strategies; and prepare reports, metrics, and leadership briefings.
Required Experience
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of information assurance, computer hardware, operating systems, and networking principles.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn and willingness to take on new challenges.
- Proactive and detail oriented with a passion for technology.
In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this intern role is $25.00 per hour; however, Sigmatech considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, experience, education/training, key skills, location, and often contractual requirements.
This is a 16 week internship only. This position is no more than 32 hours per week and does NOT include benefits.
