Description
Performs skilled technical work supporting the City's computer systems, networks, and end-user technology. Installs, configures, and maintains hardware and software to ensure reliable performance and user satisfaction. Provides helpdesk and on-site support, assists with imaging, updates, and backups, and ensures compliance with IT security and operational standards.
Examples of Duties
- Technical Support:
- Troubleshoots and resolves hardware, software, and network issues through the helpdesk system and on-site support.
- System Installation and Maintenance:
- Installs, configures, and maintains computers, printers, peripherals, and related software to ensure reliable performance.
- Imaging and Deployment:
- Prepares, images, and deploys new and serviced devices with standard configurations.
- Network Support:
- Assists with network connectivity, cabling, and basic troubleshooting of switches, routers, and access points.
- Equipment and Asset Management:
- Maintains IT hardware inventory, coordinates repairs, and disposes of out dated equipment per City policy.
- User Administration:
- Assists with account setup, access permissions, and security compliance under direction of the IT Data/Voice Network Manager.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintains technical documentation and adheres to IT and security standards.
- Backup and Recovery:
- Supports scheduled server backups and ensures data integrity.
- Customer Service:
- Provides responsive, courteous assistance and communicates technical information clearly to users.
- On-Call Support:
- Participates in after-hours rotation to support critical IT operations.
- The individual in this role is expected to contribute to the team's efforts and may be required to complete other related tasks, as maybe assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's Degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational school in Computer Science, Math, Business Administration, or a related field;
- Two (2) years of previous relevant work experience.
- Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License. Applicants who possess a valid out of state driver’s license, must obtain a Florida license within 10 days of employment.
- Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification.
- Microsoft (MCP, MCSE), Cisco (CCNA), or related industry certifications preferred.
- Special Requirement: This position will be subject to additional security clearances as mandated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJST) and the Melbourne Police Department due to access to the police department facility or police department's electronic data.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and basic networking concepts.
- Skill in diagnosing and resolving technical issues efficiently and effectively.
- Proficiency with Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365, and common enterprise applications.
- Ability to install, configure,and troubleshoot desktop hardware and peripherals.
- Strong customer service orientation and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, follow procedures, and maintain documentation.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles, endpoint protection, and safe data handling.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment while maintaining confidentiality.
