About the Role
The Cybersecurity Support Technician plays a critical role in supporting Alliance Cyber’s clients across both government and commercial sectors. This position provides frontline technical assistance, supports IT and cybersecurity operations, and contributes directly to maintaining compliance with NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, and other applicable standards. Serving as a Tier 1 Help Desk Technician, this role acts as the first point of contact for end-user support — troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues; managing user accounts and access permissions; assisting with system configurations; and escalating complex incidents as needed. Additional responsibilities include monitoring ticket queues, maintaining detailed documentation of service requests and resolutions, performing routine system updates, and supporting endpoint protection measures. With a combination of technical expertise, customer service, and cybersecurity awareness, the Junior Technician helps ensure mission readiness by supporting critical IT infrastructure, managing device distribution, and responding to service requests efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Tier 1 technical support to end-users, troubleshooting and resolving common hardware, software, and network issues in a timely manner.
- Log, track, and document support requests, incidents, and resolutions in the ticketing system, escalating unresolved issues to Tier II/III as appropriate.
- Support compliance efforts related to NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, and other federal cybersecurity frameworks by following established security procedures.
- Assist with vulnerability management activities such as scanning coordination, patch verification, and remediation tracking under senior staff supervision.
- Maintain accurate asset inventories, system documentation, and security baselines in accordance with company policy and client requirements.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and group policies within Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and other managed environments.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of endpoint protection tools, including antivirus, encryption, and device management platforms.
- Participate in incident response processes by gathering logs, documenting findings, and escalating security alerts to senior analysts.
- Assist in cybersecurity awareness and training efforts, ensuring users understand safe computing practices and company security policies.
- Collaborate with senior cybersecurity staff to identify process improvements and strengthen the organization’s security posture.
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate degree (or equivalent experience) in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles, risk management concepts, and compliance frameworks such as NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC.
- 1+ year of hands-on experience in IT support, help desk operations, or system administration.
- Proficiency with Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365 administration, and basic network troubleshooting (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP).
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workloads, and operate effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Preferred:
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, A+, or Microsoft 365 Fundamentals (MS-900).
- Familiarity with ticketing systems (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow, or Freshservice) and remote support tools.
- Exposure to endpoint protection, vulnerability scanning, or patch management tools.
- Eligibility for DoD security clearance (active clearance preferred).
- Experience supporting users in federal or defense contracting environments.
