Join our team as an IT Security Specialist I, where you’ll play a key role in ensuring the security, reliability, and resilience of South Carolina’s election systems and infrastructure. In this essential position, you will monitor, assess, and enhance cybersecurity controls across agency and county environments, directly supporting the protection of statewide election operations.
Job Responsibilities
Security Monitoring & Assessment
- Review Cyber Hygiene reports, vulnerability scans, and risk assessments to ensure timely mitigation of identified issues.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments of agency and county systems at the request of management.
- Maintain security across agency, election, and critical infrastructure systems.
Security Governance
- Develop, implement, and maintain security plans, policies, and procedures for agency critical infrastructure.
- Create and maintain end-user agreements and manage user IDs, roles, and multi-factor authentication (MFA) across all systems.
Training & Collaboration
- Provide security training and build strong working relationships with state and county election office personnel.
- Promote cybersecurity awareness and guide users in following secure practices.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or a related field and experience in the information technology field to include experience in a security-focused role. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET-level security clearance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret moderately complex technical data and assist in problem resolution.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with users, vendors, counties, and other IT personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) or more years of recent IT experience with an emphasis on cybersecurity.
- One or more cybersecurity/information security certifications (e.g., Security+, CySA+, CEH, GSEC, etc.).
- Experience performing vulnerability assessments and validating remediation efforts.
