Technical Support Engineer – Marine & Ports
Location: San Diego, CA (Remote) | Travel: 25–30%

ABB’s Marine & Ports Division keeps the world’s vessels moving with advanced power, propulsion, automation, and digital solutions. We’re looking for a Technical Support Engineer to provide expert support for marine systems and drive technologies operating on vessels worldwide.
This is a technical, high-impact role supporting customers, field teams, and engineering groups across the globe. If you’re skilled with LV/MV drives and ready to troubleshoot complex marine systems, this role is for you.
What You’ll Do
- Provide technical support for LV/MV drives in ABB Marine delivered systems
- (ACS6000, ACS6080, ACS800, ACS880 – cycloconverter experience is a plus)
- Perform advanced troubleshooting via ABB’s Remote Diagnostic System (RDS)
- Support customers through phone, email, remote connection, and on-site visits
- Serve as a technical advisor to internal ABB Marine teams
- Work with R&D and service teams to improve solutions and advanced services
- Complete field service assignments with global travel up to 25–30%
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (marine industry education a plus)
- Experience with marine LV/MV variable frequency drives
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex drive system issues using diagnostic tools/software
- Familiarity with marine/offshore operations and procedures
- Preferred background:
- ABB marine equipment
- Ship electrician or shipyard experience
- Hands-on marine installation/commissioning work
- Authorization to work permanently in the U.S.
