What’s the role?
As a Staff Analyst on our Threat Intelligence team, you will be at the forefront of protecting our marketplace ecosystem through sophisticated fraud detection and prevention strategies. You will lead complex investigations, support our threat intelligence program, and serve as a key technical consultant in our Safety By Design initiatives.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What does the day-to-day look like?
- Lead end-to-end complex fraud investigations, synthesizing findings from multiple data sources to uncover sophisticated abuse patterns and develop mitigation strategies
- Partner with our team lead on the development of our holistic threat intelligence program, including establishing processes for collection, analysis, and dissemination of threat data across teams to understand and stay ahead of sophisticated fraud actors
- Serve as a technical consultant in our Safety By Design program, reviewing system architectures and providing recommendations to embed fraud prevention controls early in the development lifecycle
- Influence product and system design to create robust, abuse-resistant features
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to translate investigation findings into technical requirements for new detection and prevention capabilities
- Provide subject matter expertise to cross-functional teams
- Lead incident response efforts for high-priority fraud events, coordinating with multiple stakeholders to ensure swift resolution
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting systems to track key risk metrics and emerging threats
- Shape the future of our abuse prevention strategy by identifying emerging threats and developing innovative solutions

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- 8+ years of experience in fraud analysis, risk management, threat intelligence or related field, with at least 4 years focused on technical investigations
- Strong SQL skills for data analysis and automation
- Deep understanding of marketplace fraud schemes and common attack vectors
- Experience with threat intelligence platforms and OSINT tools
- Strong knowledge of data structures, APIs, and system architecture principles
- Excellence in stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration
- Proven track record of leading complex technical projects and mentoring others
- Knowledge of machine learning concepts and their application to abuse detection
- Familiarity with graph databases and network analysis
- Background in incident response
- Experience with risk scoring systems and rules engines
