Backfill Support Engineer – Waukesha, Wisconsin (Onsite)
Location: Waukesha, Wisconsin
Work Type: On-call/Backup Support
We’re looking for a Support Engineer to join our onsite team in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in network and system support, with hands-on experience in troubleshooting, monitoring, and maintaining IT infrastructure in a data center or enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support for network devices such as switches, routers, and wireless access points (preferably Cisco, Riverbed).
- Configure and assign switch ports to VLANs; patch phone ports to switches as required.
- Perform basic Avaya VoIP phone troubleshooting and configuration.
- Troubleshoot fiber link issues between switches and coordinate with remote teams for resolution.
- Replace or maintain network switch chassis blades when necessary.
- Conduct visual inspections of IDF rooms for cooling, UPS, and PDU health at least twice weekly.
- Assist network and data center administrators during technical troubleshooting sessions.
- Monitor systems using tools like SolarWinds and Data Center Infrastructure Management applications.
- Support backup operations (preferably EMC Avamar, Data Domain).
- Perform basic OS administration on Windows, UNIX, and Linux environments.
- Understand and utilize ITSM tools (preferably ServiceNow).
- Work within SLA-driven environments ensuring timely response and resolution.
Preferred Skills & Knowledge:
- Networking fundamentals (Switches, Routers, VLANs).
- Server and storage hardware basics.
- Windows Server 2003, Active Directory, MS Exchange, and File/Print Server familiarity.
- Exposure to server performance monitoring and backup technologies.
- Knowledge of Control-M, EMC Avamar, Data Domain, or similar tools.
What We’re Looking For:
- 3–5 years of relevant IT support experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
- Proactive and detail-oriented approach in a fast-paced environment.
