We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.Performs routine data analysis and data research work in support of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), Data Management Office. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees at this level may rely on direction from others to solve problems that are not standard, routinely assist others in performing work of greater complexity, and participate in developing methods for mitigating data issues and deploying those methods to correct issues.ESSENTIAL DUTIESIdentifies and interprets data patterns and trends and assess data quality.Prepares concise, comprehensive technical reports to present and interpret data, identify alternatives, and make and justify recommendations on data revisions.Compiles, queries, calculates and/or loads data using CSV files, SQL and other query languages from a variety of source formats.Develops standard reports and produces ad hoc reports when needed.Research, analyzes, evaluates, and correlates data to determine accuracy and integrity.Establishes and maintains standard work procedures governing the appropriate use of data.Gathers, analyzes, develops and/or reviews complex system documents to convey business requirements and support efficient system design.Participates in user acceptance testing and testing of new system functionality.Cleans and prunes data to discard irrelevant information.Maintains data dictionary and documentation for databases and reports that captures data mapping, transformation rules and business definitions.May travel up to 5% of the time. Travels by car (may include flying). May include overnight travel. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed.Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.Performs other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of relational databases and database design.Knowledge of statistics and analyzing data sets; running queries, report writing, and presenting findings; and record keeping, including security procedures for handling, protecting, and distributing confidential data.Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software, in conducting data searches, in evaluating and translating large amounts of data, and in critical thinking.Ability to compile, review, and analyze data; to prepare reports; to maintain accuracy and attention to detail; and to communicate effectively.The above statements are not a complete list of all responsibilities, duties and skills held or performed by employees in this job. Qualifications: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation and ExperienceBachelorand#8217;s degree from an accredited college or university in omputer science, information systems, or a related field.Two (2) years of experience in tools like Power BI, COGNOS, or other visualization tools for creating reports and dashboards.Two (2) years of experience as a Data Analyst, Business Analyst, or similar role.Two (2) years of experience writing SQL scripts to generate datasets based on business requirements.Preferred Qualifications:Experience applying analytical techniques to provide solutions to real business problems.Experience in all stages of implementation (requirements, test scripts, UAT, production release).Experience working with large datasets.Experience in Data Modeling.Experience with data cleaning.ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONThis position is eligible for remote work in the state of Texas (subject to change).
