GENERAL SUMMARY
- In collaboration with the medical and nursing leadership, the Lead Clinical Psychologist responsibilities combine leadership and clinical activities, providing a full range of direct and indirect care services. Direct psychological services include psychological assessment, treatment planning and psychotherapy. Indirect patient care includes supervision of clinical program delivery by milieu, nursing, social work, psychology, pediatrics and psychiatry, and any other staff, clinical leadership and clinician group management, and program development and evaluation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide Leadership:
  - Coordinate and collaborate with other disciplines as a member of the intensive services leadership team.
  - Represent clinician group and transmit pertinent information to and from the clinician group in programmatic communications.
  - Participate actively in program development, establishing practices, implementing them, and optimizing through dynamic program evaluation.
  - Research and solicit information on best and current practices from evidence based and other programs to drive best practices.
  - Problem solve challenging care dynamics, in cases, among providers, and within the hospital system.
  - Open and maintain lines of communication with families, providers, and other hospital entities to support optimal patient/family experience and satisfaction.
  - Identify areas of need in terms of staff/provider education and clinical skill development.
- Supervision of Clinical Program Delivery and Clinician Group Management:
  - Continually and regularly observe and evaluate program activities.
  - Provide real-time support and guidance to milieu staff during activities, offer regular supervision to enable ongoing quality improvement, and solicit staff feedback on unit practices.
  - Support bridging of philosophical framework for treatment and implementation/delivery of treatment in concert with medical and nursing leadership to promote consistency of the treatment model and clear messaging with families.
  - Provide supervision, clinical consultation, and support for primary clinicians, both as needed and with regularly scheduled sessions.
  - Incorporate best practices in therapeutic modalities delivered by primary clinicians to meet patient and family needs and for quality assurance.
  - Coordinate with administrative leadership to ensure adequate coverage by clinicians for PTO/absences.
  - Coordinate with educational leadership to encourage frequent educational opportunities for all staff and clinicians to improve quality and delivery of care.
  - Provide support in the form of facilitating meetings to debrief significant changes, transitions, or sentinel events.
- Direct Patient Care:
  - Conduct psychological assessments, provide therapies, coordinate systems meetings, develop individualized behavioral therapy plans and work with milieu staff to implement and carry out effectively.
  - Collaborate in coordinated care within multidisciplinary team, for treatment and disposition planning.
  - Coordination with other disciplines in reviewing referred patients and coordinating admissions.
- Support Trainees:
  - Provide/delegate direct and indirect supervision for psychology trainees assigned to intensive programs.
  - Provide direct and indirect supervision for other (psychiatry, pediatrics, therapist, nursing, medical student) trainees rotating on intensive programs.
  - Coordinate with other services for joint learning opportunities.
- General Responsibilities:
  - Prepare, submit, and maintain all required clinical reports and records.
  - Participate in Department and Hospital committee meetings as assigned.
  - Observe and enforce all Hospital policies, rules, and regulations.
  - Contribute to unit program evaluation and research endeavors.
  - Perform other duties as required, assigned, or directed, to provide maximum benefit and utilization of psychological services to patients and to the Hospital.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
- Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Board of Psychology.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, either Psy.D or Ph.D from an APA accredited program, as well as completion of an accredited internship.
- Minimum of five years' experience in psychological evaluations and psychotherapy of children, adolescents, and adults.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in supervisory capacity; more than five years preferred.
- Must be able to plan, supervise and establish a professional working environment within areas of responsibility.
- Must possess the ability to identify problems and implement solutions for operational and organizational issues.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to direct and delegate work, explain hospital and department policies and procedures and communicate effectively with other professionals.
- Execution of Non-Competition, Confidentiality and Non Solicitation Agreement required for specialty position assigned / hired into.
