The Junior Systems Administrator will support daily operations and maintenance of server and storage systems. Responsibilities include assisting with backup systems, monitoring server health, applying system updates to reduce vulnerabilities, and performing basic troubleshooting in virtualized environments such as VMware or Hyper-V. Additional tasks involve user account management, documentation, and participation in projects aimed at improving infrastructure reliability and efficiency. This role offers opportunities to develop skills in cloud platforms, automation, and disaster recovery planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and administer virtual servers in VMware and/or Hyper-V environments.
- Apply patches and system updates to maintain security and system health.
- Maintain and verify backup systems; assist with disaster recovery testing and documentation.
- Manage users and groups using Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Configure and maintain core services such as DNS, DHCP, DFS, and Certificates.
- Document technical procedures, system configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
- Track incidents and manage assets through service desk ticketing systems.
- Travel to remote locations for support and equipment deployment as needed.
- Participate in after-hours work and on-call rotation.
- Work onsite five days a week.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Proficiency in Active Directory user and group management.
- Basic understanding of Group Policy and PowerShell.
- Exposure to monitoring tools and backup/recovery processes.
- Strong communication skills and ability to create/maintain documentation.
- Interest in learning cloud platforms and automation.
- Self-motivated and eager to learn.
Education & Experience
- Associate’s Degree or Technical Certificate in Information Systems or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 3 years of IT experience in technical support, help desk, or junior systems administration.
- Familiarity with ticketing systems, documentation practices, and basic networking preferred.
