The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Finance and Operations is a core member of the executive leadership team, responsible for directing the financial, operational, and strategic infrastructure of the organization. In a highly regulated and risk-sensitive environment like medical malpractice insurance, this role ensures financial health, operational integrity, and compliance across all business units. The SVP will provide visionary leadership across finance, accounting, actuarial services, underwriting operations, information technology, and enterprise risk management. This position demands deep expertise in insurance financials, regulatory frameworks, and operational strategy, with a proven ability to lead change and drive sustainable profitability in the med mal sector.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field required; MBA required
- 15+ years of senior financial and operational leadership experience, including significant time in the insurance industry; strong preference for experience in medical malpractice or healthcare liability
- Deep knowledge of insurance regulatory and financial reporting standards, including statutory accounting principles (SAP) and GAAP
- Demonstrated success in leading large, cross-functional teams and managing transformation initiatives
- Proven experience in strategic financial planning, ERM, and capital management
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence C-suite peers, board members, and regulators

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland's Faculty Physician's Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographical location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/ training and other qualifications.
