Buncombe County began a document imaging initiative in 2004. Since then, more than 10 million documents have been digitized and stored in various document and case management systems operating around the county. Buncombe County Information Technology is seeking a dynamic and detail focused professional to administer, support, and steer the processes and technology that support our use of these systems. This position performs professional duties related to the analysis, design, development, maintenance and administration of computer applications across multiple platforms and technologies to meet County business needs. The ideal candidate will have experience in document management, document imaging, data architecture, and SQL, and should be able to demonstrate both technical and soft skills.Purpose of the position:This position is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, and administration of the County's virtualization environment, including the supporting physical infrastructure, and for the management and configuration of the County's storage, backup, and replication systems.
Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience (required at time of hire): Bachelors' degree with major course work in Computer Science, or a related field; supplemented by three (3) years of experience in the support, operation, and design of server, network, and software systems; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Certain certifications such as those offered by VMware or Microsoft enhance the resume of an Infrastructure Analyst II in this position.
Essential Functions of the position:- Maintain and implement County technical solutions including configuration and maintenance of our storage arrays, server hardware, virtualization infrastructure, backup systems, and replication systems
- Perform the provisioning and initial configuration of server and workstation virtual machines throughout the environment
- Upgrade and maintain server system builds
- Install, support, and maintain both physical and virtual network servers and appliances
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:- In-depth knowledge of data center and server virtualization technologies
- In-depth knowledge of enterprise physical infrastructure components
- In-depth knowledge of enterprise storage/backup methodologies
- In-depth knowledge of fiber channel technologies
- Thorough understanding of Active Directory
- Understanding of scripting languages
- Ability to repair, develop, or install telecommunications systems and complex software or management information systems.
- Experience working in enterprise environments
- Ability to adapt to constantly changing technologies
- Ability to assimilate new knowledge and acquire new skills.
