II. POSITION SUMMARY:

The supervisor role with the overall responsibility for assigned patient care operations for Good Samaritan Hospital. Under the general direction of the Chief nursing officer/Patient Care Services, the Supervisor is responsible for maintaining staff effectiveness and efficiency in the Intensive Care Unit. The supervisor is responsible for:

Initiating, guiding, and directing the coordination of services provided by the department.
Functioning as a resource person for staff members and assisting in necessary education to promote effective management of the department.
Monitoring the overall quality of nurisng care provided in the Intensive Care Unit.
Making decisions regarding activities in his/her area of responsibility, in collaboration with the CNO/Patient Care Services, based on Hospital Administrative, Human Resources, and Department of Nursing Standards.

III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Ensures that Departmental mission and objectives are achieved. Interpretation of these objectives will be provided to staff, as necessary.
Guides, directs, and plans the organization and coordination of the Departmental activities, with on-going assessment of the quality and efficiency of these activities. Coordinates the scheduling of the nursing staff to provide for appropriate staffing of nursing units in his/her areas of responsibility.
Manages the nursing staff in the overall coordination of patient care provided in the Intensive Care Unit.
Provides continuous performance assessment of nursing staff.
Assumes responsibility for the administrative and clinical supervision of all nursing personnel in his/her area of responsibility. Demonstrates leadership skills in problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict management to improve teamwork. Protects confidentiality of patients/staff, respecting their dignity, privacy, and differences.
Assists in the formulation of departmental budgets and monitors adherence to approved budgets in collaboration with the CNO /Patient Care Services.
Assists in establishing and maintaining communication channels with the Medical Staff, Nursing Administration, and other Hospital Departments.
Coordinates development and implementation of educational programs to meet specific departmental needs.
Participates in department's performance improvement activities.
Participates in cooperative planning with other Hospital Departments as needed.
Maintains own professional growth through organizational memberships, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education endeavors. Maintains current knowledge of developments and trends in nursing practice.
Consistently serves as a role model in providing outstanding service to patients, physicians, fellow employees, and guests. Maintains professional level of conduct by demonstrating courteous and positive behaviors.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

IV. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Current licensure in California as a Registered Nurse.
Minimum of three years clinical practice with emphasis on ICU experience.
Current B.L.S. and A.C.L.S. certifications.

V. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
