Job Description
Flying Figs is a boutique wine bar in San Francisco's Pacific Heights neighborhood, known for its welcoming atmosphere, curated wine selection, and elevated small plates.
We're looking for a reliable, hardworking, and organized Barback / Kitchen Assistant to join our team. This is a hands-on role combining bar support, food preparation, and basic kitchen operations.
The ideal candidate is someone who takes initiative, works efficiently, maintains high standards of cleanliness, and enjoys working in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Kitchen
- Prepare and plate menu items
- Operate kitchen equipment safely, including our TurboChef oven.
- Ensure every dish meets our standards for quality, presentation, and consistency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen throughout the shift.
- Monitor food inventory, properly store ingredients, and communicate shortages before items run out.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures.
Barback & General Support
- Wash, polish, and organize glassware, dishes, and utensils.
- Keep the bar, kitchen, and service areas clean and fully stocked.
- Assist bartenders with restocking wine, ice, glassware, and supplies.
- Support opening and closing procedures.
- Assist the team during busy service periods.
- Help maintain a smooth and efficient guest experience.
Qualifications
- Previous restaurant, kitchen, or barback experience preferred.
- Basic food preparation and kitchen skills.
- Strong attention to cleanliness and detail.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
- Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine lifting and restocking.
- California Food Handler Card required within the applicable legal timeframe.
Schedule & Compensation
- $21 per hour + shared tips (excellent earning potential)
- Evening shifts
- Weekend availability, especially Fridays and Saturdays, strongly preferred
- Part-time position, with scheduling based on business needs
