Description
Robert Half Management Resources is recruiting for an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to support a retail organization in Carson, California, on a long-term contract engagement. This role will be instrumental in supporting the company's tax function, with a strong emphasis on reconciliations, compliance, and multi-jurisdictional tax matters. The ideal candidate will bring a solid foundation in state and local tax and prior experience working within complex, multi-entity organizations.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns to ensure timely and accurate filings
Manage tax provision workpapers and support quarterly and annual tax reporting processes
Ensure compliance with sales and use tax, income tax, and other indirect tax requirements
Research tax laws and evaluate the impact of regulatory changes on the business
Support tax audits and respond to notices and inquiries from taxing authorities
Assist with tax planning initiatives designed to minimize risk and improve process efficiency
Reconcile tax accounts and maintain complete, accurate supporting documentation
Partner with finance, accounting, and external advisors on tax-related matters and special projects
Handle multi-entity and multi-state tax compliance activities
Monitor inventory, distribution, and retail-specific tax issues to ensure ongoing compliance
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
5+ years of progressive tax accounting experience, preferably within retail, consumer products, distribution, or other complex operating environments
Strong knowledge of state and local tax, including sales and use tax and multi-state compliance
Experience preparing and reviewing tax returns and tax provision workpapers
Proven background in account reconciliations, tax compliance, and audit support
Experience working in complex, multi-entity organizations
Strong understanding of indirect tax requirements and related reporting obligations
Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and external advisors
Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with ERP systems and tax software is highly preferred
Preferred Qualifications
CPA or progress toward CPA preferred
Prior experience in the retail or distribution industry preferred
Familiarity with inventory and distribution-related tax considerations
