Description
An established nonprofit organization in Poughkeepsie is seeking a Contract Junior Accountant / Accounting Clerk to support its finance department. This role will assist with transactional accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and grant-related activities. The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, a solid accounting foundation, and an interest in supporting a mission-focused organization.
Key Responsibilities
Enter and reconcile accounting transactions.
Process accounts payable, employee reimbursements, and cash receipts.
Assist with monthly reconciliations and financial reporting.
Support general ledger maintenance and journal entry preparation.
Track grant expenditures and program-related expenses.
Assist with donor and funding source reporting requirements.
Maintain organized financial files and records.
Support audit preparation and compliance documentation.
Help identify process improvements and efficiencies.
Provide administrative support to the finance team as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.
1-4 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or finance experience.
Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience
Nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred.
Understanding of fund accounting and grant tracking.
Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge, Intacct, MIP Fund Accounting, QuickBooks, or similar systems.
Experience supporting audits and compliance reporting.
