THE ORGANIZATION
Founded in 1975, LITA (Love is the Answer) is a nonprofit organization committed to helping older adults in Marin County by providing volunteer friends who bring happiness, support, and companionship to older adults experiencing loneliness or social isolation.
LITA’s mission is to improve the quality of life for people living in long-term care and retirement facilities, as well as those who are isolated in their own homes, by providing regular companionship and meaningful human connection.
THE BRIDGING GENERATIONS PROGRAM
The Bridging Generations program provides elementary and middle school classes with opportunities to visit older adults in long-term care facilities. Classes visit the same facility monthly throughout the school year, allowing students and residents to develop ongoing relationships through planned, meaningful, and supervised activities.
The program creates opportunities for intergenerational learning, friendship, creativity, community engagement, and service.
THE BRIDGING THRU ARTS PROGRAM
Bridging Thru Arts (BTA) engages volunteers who share their interests and talents in theater, visual arts, poetry, film, dance, digital arts, crafts, music, and other creative activities. Young people may lead or participate in arts-based programs at long-term care facilities, providing additional opportunities for meaningful intergenerational connection.
OTHER YOUTH PROGRAMS
LITA partners with youth organizations, including Children 4 Change, Boys Team Charity, National Charity League, and various Scouting chapters, to provide activities and service opportunities for young people at long-term care facilities.
