Overview
This position serves as a Permitting Coordinator in the Permitting
Section at the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans). The Section
reviews requests to do work within the State highway right-of-way and
helps ensure proposed work meets VTrans requirements.
This role focuses on reviewing, preparing, and processing routine
highway permits for non-Agency related projects. You will work with
property owners, businesses, municipalities, utility companies,
consultant engineers, and VTrans staff to review applications and plans,
gather information, prepare permits for issuance, answer questions, and
keep permits moving through the process. The work includes reviewing
work requests in the field, collecting field information, and
participating in meetings to better understand proposed projects and
help ensure permitted work meets requirements.
We are looking for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and
comfortable communicating clearly with a variety of people in person, by
phone, and in writing. The ability to review plans and documents, manage
multiple assignments and deadlines, communicate requirements clearly,
and work both in the office and in the field is important. Experience in
permitting, transportation engineering, construction, or land
development is helpful.
Environmental Factors
Duties are generally performed in an office, laboratory, and field
setting for which private means of transportation must be available.
Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards,
and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve
traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Class incumbents may be
required to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough,
wooded, and steep terrain, travel in boats or work on structures above
ground level. Duties may also require exposure to extreme weather
conditions. Out of state travel may be required.
