Lead the financial operations of a growing reinsurance organization.
We’re looking for a highly experienced Director of Insurance Accounting to take ownership of the accounting and financial reporting functions for our reinsurance company. This is an exciting opportunity for an insurance accounting professional who understands the complexities of reinsurance and wants to play a meaningful role in building scalable processes, strengthening financial controls, and supporting the continued growth of the organization.
This role will serve as a key accounting leader, partnering closely with executive leadership, tax, actuarial, finance, and other business functions to ensure the organization’s financial reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant with applicable insurance requirements.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the day-to-day accounting operations for the reinsurance company
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Manage statutory and GAAP accounting and reporting, as applicable
- Oversee reinsurance accounting, including premiums, ceded and assumed reinsurance, loss reserves, commissions, and related balances
- Review and analyze financial statements, account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules
- Partner with the actuarial team on reserves, loss development, and other insurance-related accounting matters
- Support preparation and review of regulatory and statutory filings
- Establish and maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and documentation
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, regulators, and other third-party partners
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, reporting, and overall operational efficiency
- Provide accounting guidance on new business initiatives, transactions, and reinsurance arrangements
- Lead, develop, and mentor accounting professionals as the organization continues to grow
- Serve as a trusted accounting advisor to senior leadership and provide meaningful financial insights beyond the numbers
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, with meaningful experience within the insurance or reinsurance industry
- Strong understanding of insurance accounting and financial reporting
- Experience with statutory accounting and reporting strongly preferred
- Experience with reinsurance accounting, including assumed and/or ceded reinsurance
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation
- Experience managing or reviewing month-end and year-end close processes
- Experience working with external auditors and regulatory reporting requirements
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to operate at both the strategic and hands-on levels
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation
- Insurance or reinsurance industry experience
- Experience with Schedule P, Schedule F, and other statutory reporting schedules
- Experience working with actuarial teams and insurance reserves
- Experience with Oracle, NetSuite, or other ERP/accounting systems
- Experience in a growing or evolving insurance organization where you have helped build or improve accounting processes

Pay: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
