Description
We are looking for an Accounting Assistant to join a team in Fort Wayne, Indiana in a contract-to-hire capacity. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys a variety of accounting and administrative responsibilities and is comfortable serving as the first point of contact in a professional office setting. The role is fully onsite in a quiet office environment, working Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The successful candidate will support daily accounting operations while also assisting with front desk and administrative functions. This opportunity offers a blend of accounting, customer service, and office support duties for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, and dependable.
Responsibilities:
Process vendor invoices accurately, assign proper coding, and prepare items for timely payment.
Support accounts receivable activities by recording payments, tracking outstanding balances, and maintaining customer account records.
Assist with payroll-related administrative duties to help ensure accurate and timely processing.
Reconcile bank activity and review financial records to identify and resolve discrepancies.
Maintain accounting records and update financial information within QuickBooks and other internal systems.
Greet visitors, answer and direct incoming phone calls, and provide a professional front desk presence.
Receive, sort, and distribute mail, packages, and office correspondence.
Assist with scheduling, filing, data entry, and other general office administrative tasks.
Respond to inquiries from customers, vendors, and internal staff regarding invoices, payments, and account information.
Help maintain an organized, efficient, and welcoming office environment.
Requirements
Previous experience in an accounting support, accounting clerk, accounting assistant, administrative assistant, or office support role.
Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and basic payroll functions.
Experience with invoice processing, account reconciliations, and financial recordkeeping.
Proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
Strong customer service and communication skills with a professional phone demeanor.
Ability to manage front desk responsibilities while balancing accounting and administrative tasks.
High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
Dependable work ethic and ability to work onsite in a quiet office environment from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
