TSG is looking for workers to join our team at Riverside National Cemetery. Grounds Maintenance Workers perform turf and grounds maintenance and improvement services for the cemetery’s esteemed grounds to honor those who have served our nation.
Job Title: Grounds Maintenance Worker
Classification: Non-exempt - Hourly
Pay Rate: $19.27/Hour + $5.42 Health & Welfare Pay*
*Health & Welfare Pay is offered in lieu of health insurance. If an employee enrolls in a company-offered health insurance plan, they will not be eligible for the additional H&W pay.

Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM | Monday through Friday* - Federal holidays off unless otherwise required by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
*Work occurs regardless of weather conditions except in extreme or unsafe circumstances – All duties are performed outdoors.
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The grounds maintenance team is responsible for the following duties, which include but are not limited to:
TURF & GRASS MAINTENANCE
Turf Renovation – On irrigated and non-irrigated turf
o Soil preparation & Testing
o Sodding
Turf Maintenance
o Mowing, Trimming, & Edging assigned zones and clearing clippings and soil from headstones, markers, and hardscape
o Edge turf at streets, curbs, walkways, mow bands, landscape borders, tree wells, and planting beds inside and outside cemetery grounds
o Fertilization
o Weed Control – Controlling weed growth and disease in turf by means of mowing, trimming, and and/or other approved methods
o Aerification
o Top dressing
o Maintaining landscaping equipment in good working order and conducting minor repairs as needed
GROUNDS MAINTENANCE
• Properly collecting, removing, and disposing of all trash, debris, fallen leaves, needles, seed pods, and branches, dead and unsightly flowers from the cemetery grounds, driveways, parking areas, and areas within the public right-of-way between the cemetery proper and edge of pavement daily.
• Emptying cemetery trash receptacles each workday, and regular floral pickup at gravesites and columbaria each workday.
• Safely loading, securing, and transporting green waste and bulk material
• Clearing grates, catch basins, and sediment traps
• Removing standing water from gravesites and memorial areas as needed
CUSTOMER SERVICE & CEMETERY CONDUCT
• Assisting cemetery visitor inquiries to the best of your ability.
• Exercising courtesy and respect at all times while within the cemetery.
• Maintaining awareness of the grounds where the work is performed, ensuring the utmost care and respect is given to headstones and flat grave markers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Frequent walking, standing, bending, and working on uneven terrain
• Ability to operate or learn commercial mowers, string trimmers, and stick edgers safely.
• Work is outdoors and is performed year-round in varying weather conditions, with exposure to dust, pollen, insects, and noise.
• Requires good vision, hearing, and the ability to maintain landscaped and memorial areas.
REQUIREMENTS:
• 1-2 years of grounds maintenance/landscaping experience | previous cemetery experience is a plus
• Successfully completing a background check that complies with local and federal laws
• Valid Driver’s License – To operate company vehicles and machinery | Valid Class B (or higher) Commercial Driver's License is a plus
• Attention to detail; this role works in direct proximity to monuments, headstones, markers, and memorial structures at all times
• Reliable transportation
