The Department of
Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin
invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant
professor to begin in Fall 2027. The Department is part of the
top-ranked
Moody College of Communication, which includes
programs in Advertising and Public Relations, Communication
Studies, Journalism and Media, and Speech, Language, and Hearing
Sciences.
We welcome applications from scholars conducting historical and/or
contemporary research and specializing in film, television, video
games, social media, music, and/or other media industries. We
conceive industry studies broadly to include production studies,
policy studies, political economy, labor studies, and
infrastructure studies. Applicants must demonstrate potential for
excellence in scholarship, as well as in teaching a range of
required and elective courses at the undergraduate and graduate
levels, graduate mentoring, and university service.
Candidates for this faculty position should be prepared to teach
courses currently offered by the department as well as develop new
courses aligned with their research interests. The Department of
Radio-Television-Film highlights a range of areas including film
and television history and production, critical/cultural analysis,
digital studies, global media, industries, screenwriting, and
more.
Qualifications
Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. at the time of the
appointment. Applicants should have a promising or established
program of research and publication record, a commitment to
teaching excellence, and an interest in advising and mentoring
graduate students and undertaking collaborative research. The
ability to actively pursue and secure external funding is also
valued.
