The Phoenix Shop Assistant Store Manager Job Description:
General Position Summary:
Responsible to oversee and manage Sales Department functions, Store Supervisors, Sales Associates, daily store sales operations, capital assets, inventory, and profitability at the Phoenix Shop.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
• Act as a leader, policy maker and implementer, and as a professional.
• Communicate with all employees, guests, supervisors, and vendors in a respectful, timely, and professional manner.
• Maximize the day to day and long term profitability and productivity of the retail store operations.
• Hiring, terminating, supervision and management, job performance coaching and counseling, and scheduling of Store Supervisors and Sales Associates.
• Train and supervise all employees in retail store operations in meeting service standards and all other areas of employee responsibility.
• Oversee sales related day-to-day issues in retail store operations.
• Provide continuing oversight, supervision and management of store operations and all retail staff in absence of Store Manager.
• Manage store capital assets in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
• Manage employee relations by ensuring staff communicates with each other and guests in an appropriate and respectful manner at all times.
• Encourage employee recruitment and retention by determining employee needs and overseeing and implementing benefits, work schedules, and levels of responsibility consistent with overall Company guidelines and goals.
• Support safety and emergency training for all store employees independently and in coordination with Store Manager and Human Resources Manager.
• Encourage guest retention by determining guest needs and offering or modifying services accordingly.
• Pursue continuing retail sales operations education for own position and subordinate positions in areas that allow for growth and increased productivity.
• Regularly provide sales associates with product information both verbally and in written format.
• Create written product information hand-outs for guests on regularly represented merchandise.
• Knowledge of all Policies and Procedures for Nepenthe/Phoenix Corporation
• Knowledge of all Sales Associate floor position responsibilities and Supervisor responsibilities
• Monthly data input and maintenance of Sales Incentive Program.
• Working knowledge of all merchandise information, back-stock and display location
Secondary Functions:
• Ensure that all equipment is in serviceable condition and is being operated in a safe manner.
• Supervise and manage back-up support/coverage to all positions as needed.
• Participate and support Manager during annual inventory.
• Regular communication with the Creative Director regarding display maintenance.
• Ordering of gift wrapping, packaging and office supplies
Regular Job Tasks:
• Oversee daily operations of the sales floor when Floor Supervisor is not present.
• Ensure quality guest service standards and sales associate productivity is maintained through regular communication with Floor Supervisors –
• Support daily floor operations through positional coverage as needed.
Specific Job Skills:
• Excellent supervision/managerial skills required.

• Public Relations skills required.
• Training/development skills required.
• Ability to actively participate in team development and team-oriented processes and motivate others to do the same required.
• Physical and mental ability to run all of the store equipment (printer/copiers/fax, computers, point of sales systems, etc.). This requires the physical ability to bend, twist, lift up to 30 pounds regularly, finger small items, see and hear.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Mental ability to conduct on-going interpersonal interactions and to analyze and solve problems is essential.
• Physical and mental ability to use computer hardware/software required.
• Possess a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record and proof of current vehicle insurance.
Job Conditions:
This position requires the employee to work in an environment where there may be regular exposure to fumes, building temperature fluctuations, dust, noise, chemicals, odors, and outside weather. Other working conditions may include frequent interruptions, working alone, evening work, working long hours during peak periods, and exposure to computer CRT’s.
Position requires a commitment to work an average of forty hours a week plus overtime as necessary, and a minimum of five days a week worked.
