THE POSITION
Title: Maintenance Trainer
Supervisor: Workforce Development Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Trainer is responsible for delivering hands-on maintenance training while supporting the maintenance and operations of Sabin CDC properties. This position provides direct supervision, mentorship, and workforce development for three AmeriCorps Maintenance Members through structured, project-based learning. The Maintenance Trainer works closely with the Maintenance Director to align training activities with property maintenance needs, ensuring members develop practical skills while contributing meaningful service to Sabin's affordable housing communities.
Weekly Responsibilities
20 Hours – AmeriCorps Member Training
● Provide 20 hours per week of structured, hands-on maintenance training for three AmeriCorps Maintenance Members.
● Deliver training focused on maintenance fundamentals, building systems, unit turnover, preventative maintenance, landscaping, safety practices, and property operations.
● Mentor members in professional workplace expectations, customer service, teamwork, and career readiness.
10 Hours – PCEF Project Support
● Support Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF) project activities.
● Coordinate and assist with energy efficiency, weatherization, and sustainability-related maintenance projects.
● Ensure maintenance activities align with applicable grant requirements and project timelines.
10 Hours – Planning, Coordination, and Staff Development
● Prepare weekly training curriculum, materials, and learning objectives for AmeriCorps members.
● Coordinate projects and work assignments with the Workforce Development Coordinator and Maintenance Director.
● Develop project schedules that maximize learning opportunities while meeting organizational maintenance priorities.
● Deliver maintenance-specific training and skill development opportunities for Sabin maintenance staff as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATION
● High school graduate or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
● Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; internet research; databases; mail merge; office equipment; voice mail systems; and social media platforms is helpful.
● Experience working with multiple staff members, managing multiple tasks and competing priorities, and dealing with the public.
● Strong and accurate attention to detail.
● Ability to work independently and as a team member, and to take direction when given.
● Available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
● Ability to work with a diverse population.
● Ability to pass a background check.

Other:
● To drive SABIN CDC vehicles, a license, and a good driving record are necessary, as well as proof of automobile liability insurance required by Oregon.
● Reliable methods of getting to work are required.
● Must be free from illegal drugs and may be subject to suspicion testing.
● Must be able to pass the Criminal Background Check.
● Able to drive/travel long distances.
● Able to sit at meetings for as long as four hours.
● May have periodic evening and weekend activities.
● Physical Requirements: Exerting up to pounds of force to lift, carry, pull, or move an object multiple times a day.
● Have hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations or required repairs
○ Must be able to sit, stand, reach, bend, and stoop for extended periods
● Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on a narrow or slippery surface.
● Substantial movements (motion) of the wrist, hands, and fingers in a repetitive manner
