We are a marketing and production company based in Orange County. Our Head of Production has directed five Emmy-winning shows (Disney, Meta, YouTube) and has shot 120+ broadcast programs in Hollywood. We are hiring one part-time Production Assistant to work directly as their right hand.
This is a paid position, not an internship, not a shadowing opportunity, and not a "get coffee and learn" gig. You will be dropped into working productions and expected to contribute from hour one.
Immediate need — you must be available for both of these this week:
Wednesday, 3:00–5:00 PM — Fullerton (2 hours, in person)
Thursday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM — Santa Ana (full day, on set)
If you cannot make both, please indicate that in your contact. We will hire someone else who can, and can keep your info for the next round if you are strong.
What you'll actually be doing:
Walking into a shoot, help execute as directed for moving gear, lighting and blocking. You'll run support without hand-holding
Camera support: building and breaking down bodies, lenses, batteries, media, monitoring
Lighting support: setting stands, flagging, diffusing, cutting, adjusting color temp on direction
Grip and G&E basics: sandbags, C-stands, cable runs, clean over-under coils
Audio basics: lavs, boom placement, monitoring levels
Set discipline: watching frame lines, staying out of shot, anticipating the next setup
Wrap: gear accounted for, media offloaded and backed up, location left cleaner than we found it
Some post: assembly edits, syncing, logging selects, organizing project files (Premiere and/or Resolve)
Non-negotiables:
Based in Orange County with your own reliable vehicle and a valid license. You will be driving yourself to Fullerton and Santa Ana, sometimes with gear. There is no rideshare-and-expense-it option.
You already know the fundamentals for camera work.
You can lift and carry 40 lbs repeatedly and stand for an 8+ hour day.
You communicate. Text back within the hour on shoot days. If you are running late, we hear it from you first, not from the clock.
You take direction cleanly and do not argue with the DP on set.
Nice to have but not necessary:
Sony FX / Canon C-series body experience
Premiere or DaVinci Resolve chops
Your own basic kit (not required)
Pay & structure: $25/hour, paid for every hour worked including travel between locations on the same shoot day. Starting as part-time and on-call. If it clicks, there is real, ongoing work here and room to grow into a bigger role. We are not looking to churn through bodies — we are looking for ONE person we can call for years to come.
To apply — read carefully, because we screen for this:
Put OC CAMERA — [Your First and Last Name] in the subject line. Applications without this are deleted unread.
In the body of your email answer:
1. Confirm in one line: are you available this Wednesday 3–5 PM in Fullerton AND Thursday 9–5 in Santa Ana? Yes or no.
2. What city do you live in and how long is your drive to Fullerton on a weekday afternoon?
3. Link to a reel, or 2–3 links to work you personally shot, lit, or cut. Tell us specifically what you did on each.
Bonus points questions:
4. How do you set exposure on a digital cinema camera, and what tool do you trust most? Why that one?
5. You're handed a single 600W LED and asked to make a seated interview feel like late afternoon. Walk us through your first three moves.
6. Show us you've wrapped a set before: what is an over-under coil and why does it matter?
7. The shoot is pre-lit and blocked. Talent is running 20 minutes late and the DP is on a call. What are you doing with those 20 minutes?
Short, direct answers beat long ones. We are hiring for judgment, not vocabulary.
We're moving fast on this one — phone screens happen within 24 hours of your email. Thank you for your interest.
