Senior Director / Vice President, Information Technology
Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex (Onsite Preferred | Hybrid Flexibility for the Right Candidate)
Estimated base salary range: $175,000–$215,000, plus a discretionary performance-based bonus. There is not currently a formal equity program associated with this position.
Let’s start here.
Hey there! If you've come across one of my searches before, welcome back! Every now and then I like to shake up the job boards by writing these a little differently.
Rather than posting another generic list of responsibilities and qualifications, I try to share the story behind the opportunity—why the company is hiring, what they're trying to build, and the type of leader I genuinely believe will thrive.
My goal isn't to attract the most applicants; it's to help the right person recognize themselves in the opportunity.
My hope is that, by the time you finish reading, you'll know whether this role feels genuinely exciting...or whether it's simply not the right fit. Either outcome is a win.
The Opportunity
We're partnering with a private equity-backed, mid-market company of approximately 500 employees entering an exciting new chapter. Like many organizations that have grown through acquisition, the business has accumulated the natural complexity that comes with success—legacy platforms, customized business systems, disconnected processes, and technology decisions made for yesterday's business rather than tomorrows.
Rather than simply maintaining the status quo, ownership has made a significant investment in both the company and its leadership team. Technology sits at the center of that strategy. Reporting directly to the CTO, this leader will own Corporate IT, Enterprise Applications & Integrations, Information Security, Cloud Infrastructure, and Enterprise AI while helping shape the long-term technology roadmap.
This is not a role built around keeping the lights on. It's an opportunity to modernize platforms, simplify complexity, strengthen the organization, and help build the next generation of the company's technology function.
The company is intentionally flexible on title. They're open to hiring this role at either the Senior Director or Vice President level based on the experience, leadership, and perspective the right candidate brings.
What You'll Help Build
Over the next several years, you'll play a key role in initiatives such as:
- Modernizing enterprise applications and reducing technical debt.
- Helping shape the company's long-term enterprise systems strategy, including the likely implementation of its first ERP platform.
- Continuing the migration of corporate workloads to Microsoft Azure.
- Re-evaluating legacy business systems as major technology contracts come up for renewal.
- Improving enterprise architecture and systems integration.
- Strengthening cybersecurity, identity, governance, and operational resilience.
- Expanding the practical use of AI and automation across the organization.
- Building a more scalable, service-oriented technology organization capable of supporting the company's next chapter.
Who Will Thrive Here?
Not every great technology leader will enjoy this role—and that's okay. The leaders who thrive in environments like this are builders. They've spent their careers stepping into organizations where priorities evolve, not every answer exists on day one, and progress depends on someone willing to create clarity, make thoughtful decisions, and move the business forward.
They don't wait for perfect conditions.
They build them.
They know how to balance urgency with sound judgment, creating structure without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
Maybe you've found yourself thinking:
"We could accomplish so much more if we could just simplify how we work."
Or maybe you've spent years helping someone else build an organization while quietly wondering what you could accomplish if you had the opportunity to shape one yourself.
Successful transformation isn't just about technology.
It's about people.
You'll inherit a lean technology organization filled with people who care deeply about the business. Like many organizations that have experienced significant change, the team is at different stages of its journey. Great leaders know how to re-energize those excited about what's next, thoughtfully develop existing talent, and identify where new capabilities will be needed as the organization evolves.
They don't force change.
They build trust.
They're approachable, authentic, emotionally intelligent, and capable of helping people understand not only what is changing—but why it matters.
Finally, they're naturally curious. AI isn't just another buzzword to them. They're already experimenting with it in their own work—whether that's automating repetitive tasks, improving documentation, building lightweight workflows, or simply finding smarter ways to get things done. They see AI as a practical business tool, and they're excited about helping an organization thoughtfully adopt it in ways that create real value.
What You'll Own
Your portfolio will include leadership across:
- Enterprise IT
- Enterprise Applications & Integrations
- Enterprise Systems Strategy (including future ERP)
- Cloud Infrastructure
- Information Security & Identity
- AI & Automation
- Technology Vendors & Strategic Partnerships
- IT Budget & Investment Planning
You'll partner closely with the executive team to improve how technology enables the business—not simply how technology operates. Some weeks you'll be discussing long-term strategy. Other weeks you'll be evaluating enterprise platforms, helping prioritize technology investments, improving cybersecurity, coaching your leadership team, or finding practical ways AI can improve the employee experience. This is an executive leadership role. But it's also a builder's role.
What Will Get My Attention?
Titles matter less than patterns.
I'm especially interested in leaders who have:
- Modernized enterprise technology environments.
- Led major enterprise systems or ERP initiatives.
- Improved legacy platforms and business applications.
- Successfully stepped into organizations with technical debt, competing priorities, or operational complexity—and helped create clarity, stability, and momentum.
- Built stronger IT organizations during periods of transformation.
- Successfully balanced infrastructure, cloud, security, enterprise applications, and business partnership.
- Stayed technically credible while growing into broader leadership responsibility.
- Built trust through execution—not simply title.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive technology leadership experience.
- Experience leading Enterprise IT, Enterprise Applications, Cloud Infrastructure, and Information Security.
- Experience with ERP selection, implementation, or other large-scale enterprise systems initiatives is strongly preferred.
- Experience modernizing legacy environments and improving systems integration.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity, identity, governance, and risk management.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary technology teams.
- Genuine curiosity around AI, automation, and emerging technologies.
- Strong executive communication, budgeting, and vendor management skills.
Location
This role is based in the Dallas–Fort Worth area metroplex. The executive team believes technology leadership is most effective when it's highly connected to the business. As a result, they're seeking someone who is either already local or excited about relocating and being an active, visible presence with both the leadership team and the broader organization.
Why This Role Is Different
This is a genuine transformation opportunity. The executive team recognizes that the organization that got them here won't be the one that takes them where they want to go next—and that's exactly why this role exists. If you've successfully led through change before and found it rewarding, this may be the opportunity you've been waiting for.
The best way to reach me is to apply through LinkedIn and email your resume to megan@brainworksinc.com.
