The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a skilled EQUIPMENT REPAIR TECHNICIAN responsible for the equipment and facilities utilized to repair and maintain the vehicles and fleet equipment at the Arizona State Prison Complex (ASPC) - Tucson.
In this role, you will also determine each vehicle's condition for safe operation, ensuring that repair procedures and methods are proper.

Job Duties:
- Trains, coordinates and supervises working inmate mechanics
- Analyzes repair work needed
- Sets repair priorities and whether or not vendor repairs are needed
- Conducts vehicle inspections
- Determines all repair parts, supplies, and accessories as needs
- Prepares purchases orders for those needed items for final approval and processing
- Ensures accurate data entry into department automated fleet management program Ron Turley Associates (RTA)
- Work orders, Fuel logs, Inventory records and PM scheduling
- Maintains complete inventory of all parts, supplies and tools
- Keeps current with latest technology to update skills through training seminars, classes, and printed materials
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
- Power/drive train system inspections, diagnoses, repair procedures of electrical systems and inspections
- Electronic control system inspections, diagnosis, repair procedures, and computerized diagnostic analyzer uses and practices
- Hydraulic system inspections, diagnosis, repair procedures and operating principles of gasoline and diesel fueled internal combustion engines
- Principles and practices of schedule preventive maintenance programs
- Automotive/truck and heavy equipment operating procedures
Skill in:
- Using computerized diagnostic analyzer equipment to troubleshoot and repair electric, electronic, and mechanical systems
- Using a wide variety of specialized tools and equipment to service, repair, and maintain automotive, truck, and heavy construction equipment
- Preparing accurate repair estimates and establishing the best and most effective course of repair action
- Using repair, service, and overhaul manuals printed or computerized
- Performing quality control inspections, estimating time and material costs of repairs on equipment
- Using computerized maintenance management and information systems
- Using personal computers and various software including Google products and Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
Ability to:
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical and electronic hydraulic system problems, and perform safety and preventive maintenance inspections on a wide variety of automotive and heavy equipment
- Overhaul, repair, and service a wide variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment
- Follow oral and written instructions and effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Prioritize, schedule, and track repairs and services for a large fleet operation
- Comprehend and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Work in a prison environment
Selective Preference(s):
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in at least two categories
- Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) - Air Conditioning Certification
- Minimum of five (5) years of continual working experience at a Journeyman level as an automotive or heavy equipment mechanic
- Within the first year from hire date, this position would require the individual to obtain a DOT Brake Inspector Certification and DOT Commercial Vehicle Inspector Certification
Pre-Employment Requirements:
Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination.
In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.
Valid Arizona Driver’s License, due to the need to repair heavy trucks and buses this position would require within the first six (6) months from hire date, at a minimum a Class B CDL license with a “P”, passenger endorsement.
If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
