About the Role Our client, an acclaimed independent production company based in Washington, D.C. , is seeking a skilled Director of Photography (DP) for an upcoming feature film project. This contract position requires the DP to bring a strong visual sensibility and technical expertise to the set, working closely with the director to establish and execute the film's look. You will be responsible for all aspects of camera, lighting, and overall visual composition, translating the script's narrative into a compelling visual story. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with the Director to develop and implement the visual style and aesthetic of the film. Select and manage camera, lighting, and grip equipment appropriate for the project's needs and budget. Operate cameras or supervise camera operators to achieve desired shots and framing. Design and execute lighting schemes to enhance mood, atmosphere, and storytelling. Work closely with the gaffer and key grip to ensure efficient and safe execution of lighting and camera setups. Supervise the camera and lighting crew on set. Ensure visual consistency throughout the production. Troubleshoot technical issues related to camera, lighting, and visual quality. Communicate effectively with all departments to achieve a unified creative vision. Manage the cinematography budget and schedule as required. Requirements Proven experience as a Director of Photography on feature films or high-end short films, with a strong portfolio demonstrating diverse visual styles. In-depth knowledge of various camera systems, lenses, lighting techniques, and grip equipment. Proficiency with industry-standard cinematography software and tools. Strong understanding of composition, color theory, and visual storytelling. Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage a set environment. Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills. Experience working within budget and schedule constraints. Ability to interpret scripts and collaborate on creative vision. Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience.
