About the Opportunity
This is more than a traditional estimating role. It's an opportunity to build and lead a developing quoting function while partnering directly with executive leadership, sales, operations, and manufacturing teams.
You'll play a key role in determining how projects are priced, ensuring quotes accurately reflect manufacturing realities, and helping the company balance competitiveness with profitability. From reviewing technical drawings and Bills of Materials to developing pricing strategies for complex customer projects, your work will directly influence business growth and financial performance.
Position Overview
We're seeking a Quoting Manager to lead the estimating and pricing function for a custom manufacturing operation. This individual will oversee the development of customer quotations, analyze manufacturing costs, recommend pricing strategies, and help drive continuous improvement throughout the quoting process.
The ideal candidate understands how products are built, can confidently review drawings and specifications, and knows how labor, material, and overhead costs impact profitability. This role will also provide leadership and mentorship to a small quoting team while serving as a trusted advisor to company leadership on pricing decisions.
What You'll Do
- Lead the estimating and quoting process for customer projects and production orders
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to develop accurate cost estimates
- Analyze labor, material, and overhead costs to ensure profitable pricing recommendations
- Develop pricing strategies that balance market competitiveness and company profitability
- Partner closely with Sales, Operations, Engineering, and Leadership on complex quoting decisions
- Evaluate manufacturing requirements and identify potential risks, cost drivers, and opportunities
- Improve quoting methodologies, processes, and tools to increase efficiency and accuracy
- Manage and mentor a small quoting and estimating team
- Support business growth through data-driven pricing recommendations and cost analysis
- Provide insights into margin improvement opportunities and operational efficiencies
What You Bring
- 5+ years of estimating, quoting, pricing, cost analysis, or related experience within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, labor costing, material costing, and overhead allocation
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Experience developing accurate cost estimates for manufactured products
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to evaluate pricing strategically rather than simply applying formulas
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- ERP or MRP systems experience
