Reports To The Head of School
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the senior financial and operational leader
of the school and is responsible for the strategic stewardship of the school’s financial
resources and business operations. Reporting directly to the Head of School, the CFO
oversees accounting, budgeting, financial planning, tuition management, payroll, risk
management, and operational compliance.
The CFO also leads and manages the school’s annual financial audit process, ensuring
accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with nonprofit
and regulatory standards.
The CFO supports the school’s Islamic mission and educational vision while ensuring
long-term financial sustainability and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and implement long-range financial strategies aligned with the school’s mission and strategic goals.
- Prepare and manage the annual operating and capital budgets.
- Provide financial forecasting, modeling, and analysis to support leadership decision-making.
- Present financial reports and recommendations to the Head of School and Board.
- Monitor cash flow, reserves, investments, and debt obligations.
- Maintain sound fiscal policies and internal controls. Accounting, Audit & Financial Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations including accounts payable, accountsreceivable, payroll, tuition billing, and general ledger.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Lead and coordinate the school’s annual independent audit, including preparation of schedules, supporting documentation, and communication with external auditors.
- Ensure implementation of audit recommendations and best practices.
- Maintain compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and applicable laws and regulations.
- Oversee banking relationships, financial systems, and purchasing procedures. Tuition & Enrollment Finance
- Oversee tuition collection, payment plans, and financial aid administration.
- Collaborate with admissions and enrollment teams on enrollment projections and tuition revenue forecasting.
- Develop policies and procedures to strengthen tuition collection and financial accessibility.
Human Resources & Payroll Administration
● Oversee payroll processing, employee benefits administration, onboarding, and
personnel records.
● Support compensation planning and HR compliance.
● Ensure compliance with employment laws and school policies.
Operations & Risk Management
● Oversee operational functions including facilities coordination, vendor
management, insurance, and risk management.
● Manage contracts and service agreements.
● Support campus maintenance and capital improvement planning.
Governance & Compliance
● Support the Finance Committee and Board of Trustees with financial reporting
and analysis.
● Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, accreditation, and nonprofit
requirements.
● Develop and maintain financial and operational policies and procedures.
Mission Alignment
● Support and uphold the Islamic values, mission, and culture of the school.
● Demonstrate ethical financial stewardship consistent with Islamic principles.
● Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and collaborative leadership.
Qualifications
Required
● Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related
field.
● Minimum 5–7 years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience.
● Strong knowledge of accounting, budgeting, audits, and nonprofit financial
management.
● Experience overseeing financial reporting and audit processes.
● Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
● Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
● Understanding of Islamic school environments and values.
Preferred
● CPA, MBA, or related advanced degree preferred.
● Experience in independent schools, nonprofit organizations, or educational
institutions.
● Familiarity with tuition management systems and school operations.
