HSE LeadReporting to the Project Director –the HSE Lead will be responsible for leading the development and continuous improvement of the HSE Management program on a large transit project.
This position is based out of Toronto, Ontario.

- Lead the development and continuous improvement of the Joint Venture HSE Management Program.
- Work with the Project Leadership Team to ensure the organization’s HSE Program is implemented consistently across the project.
- Provide leadership, coaching and direction to the project HSE team to ensure the achievement of the HSE KPI’s as identified within the project HSE Program.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure HSE standards are communicated, implemented and measured.
- Accountable for leading a team of EHS professionals within assigned scope and support with the development of EHS personnel through on-going coaching, mentoring.
- Notifies management of compliance issues associated with the work and assists in the development and implementation of corrective actions.
- Inspect work sites to evaluate ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance with Environmental & Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Conducts audits, inspections, incident investigations and lead Serious Incident Investigations.
- Oversee & coordinate internal and/or external audits.
- Participate in sub-contractor safety prequalification process and ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards.
- Participates and/or lead various project / operational safety meetings.
- Ensures safety metrics are regularly compiled, trended, and reviewed with Project Management and Operational Leadership.
- Liaise with external parties such as government inspectors, sub-contractors, and public as required.
What We Are Looking For- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety: bachelor’s degree, community college or equivalent experience in the H&S field, Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent.
- Experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups.
- Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- National Construction Safety Officer Certificate
- 10+ years’ Health and Safety field experience
- Comprehensive working knowledge of OH&S/OSHA Acts and Regulations
- Possess a broad knowledge of local government Health & Safety Acts, Policies, Regulations and Industry Standards as they apply to the construction industry
- Thorough knowledge and experience in health and safety management systems and program implementation
- Skilled in managing internal auditing programs
- Ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to company operations and activities
- Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, excellent verbal, and written communication skills.
- Understanding of Workers Compensation and return-to-work programs
- Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment

- Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
