Position: Motorcycle Technician/Mechanic
Location: Costa Mesa, CA
Employment Type: Full-Time Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm
Compensation: $70,000 to $90,000 per year depending on experience

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Motorcycle Technician/Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Harley-Davidson and American V-Twin motorcycles, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service. This role involves performing maintenance, repairs, and custom modifications, as well as accurately estimating job requirements and costs.
Required Skills
1. Time Tracking: We can have some dynamic jobs and try to avoid surprises. Top candidates for this role will proactively track their time and communicate any deviations from estimated hours.
2. Estimating: At Cycledoctor, we provide customers with advance quotes. Staff may collaborate with the owner to ensure accurate estimates. A top candidate for this role will be a skilled service writer who has enough understanding to give a ballpark estimate on the time needed, document the procedure, and hand it over to the owner for review.
3. Troubleshooting: We go above and beyond to produce quality work. A top candidate for the role will go above and beyond to identify issues like oil leaks, pre-existing deficiencies, etc., document and quote labor to address the new issues or bring issues to the owner's attention, and proactively help reset customer expectations.
4. Time Management: Your time is self-managed. It is not in your best interest to entertain non-work-related activities.
5. Positive Attitude: Dropping your pride and ego for a bit to acknowledge your way may not be the best way. We are open to our way not being the best way either. We appreciate humility and being open to new ideas.
6. Job Procedure Knowledge: We get some funky and busted bikes at Cycledoctor that often have a history of prior neglect, abuse, and poor workmanship. The top candidate for this job will have knowledge of vintage bikes back to the 50s: M8, Twin Cam, Shovelhead, Evolution, Sportster, engine building, torque values, fuel systems, oiling systems, etc.
7. Fabrication Skills: We have a full fabrication shop on premises including a Mill, Lathe, Sunnen hone, cylinder head reconditioning equipment, MIG and TIG welders. The top candidate for this position employs fabrication skills, including welding and machining, as needed.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform maintenance, repairs, and custom modifications on Harley-Davidson and American V-Twin motorcycles.
• Provide accurate estimates for repair and maintenance work, including time and cost projections.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues, ensuring thorough and high-quality repairs.
• Collaborate with the owner and customers to understand job requirements and provide realistic estimates.
• Maintain detailed records of work performed, including time tracking and notes on procedures.
• Ensure a clean and safe work environment, adhering to safety standards and best practices.
• Demonstrate knowledge of vintage bikes, engine building, and various motorcycle models.
Requirements
• Utilize computer skills to look up parts, read service manuals, and access diagnostic information.
• Valid driver's license with motorcycle endorsement and a clean driving record.
• Harley-Davidson training from the factory, MMI, or similar trade school.
