POSITION OVERVIEW:
Alzheimer’s Family Center is one of the few adult day health care centers in Orange County that prepares and serves meals onsite from the Center’s commercial kitchen. The Meal Coordinator Assistant works closely with AFC’s Meal Coordinator to help ensure that quality, nutritious meals are prepared and served daily to patients attending day services. This role provides hands-on experience in understanding and accommodating the unique nutritional needs of older adults living with dementia, including modified food textures, consistencies, and specialized dietary considerations, while maintaining compliance with Title 22 regulations and the Department of Social Services’ Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Responsibilities may also include assisting with meal planning, budgeting, and purchasing. The Meal Coordinator Assistant interacts directly with patients while assisting in the preparation and service of breakfast, lunch, and snacks for up to 150 patients per day. The majority of the role involves meal service, kitchen and dining area cleanup, and supporting the Meal Coordinator during food deliveries. This position offers valuable insight into the daily operation of a food program within an adult day health care setting.
DUTIES:
1. Cleans, mops, and sanitizes kitchen and dining areas throughout the day, including tables, dishes, and other food service surfaces, and removes and disposes of trash from kitchen and dining areas.
2. Assists with the preparation and service of patient meals.
3. Assists with the planning and preparation of breakfast, lunch, and snack menus that meet CACFP nutritional guidelines.
4. Assists with purchasing sufficient food, cleaning supplies, and other kitchen-related goods necessary for planned menus and daily operations.
5. Completes CACFP food production records and other required documentation, as needed.
6. Assists with food service for special events and Center activities.
7. In collaboration with the Meal Coordinator, helps monitor kitchen practices to ensure compliance with ADHC, CACFP, and County Health Department regulations and standards.
8. Assists with directing and engaging volunteers supporting the kitchen program and helps provide ongoing training and support to ensure quality service.
9. Participates in staff meetings, trainings, and required in-service education programs.
10. Participates actively in the “loop of information sharing” among staff, ensuring communication remains positive, professional, and constructive.
11. Other duties as assigned by the Meal Coordinator, Manager of Programs, Director of Programs, and/or the CEO.
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a motivated individual who is able to work independently. While a background in nutrition is not required, an interest in nutrition and knowledge of the dietary needs of older adults is preferred. The individual in this role must be able to assist with food preparation, meal service, and kitchen and dining area cleanup for up to 150 patients daily.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Experience working in a health care, food service, or senior care setting is preferred.
