About Us
We self-perform heavy civil scopes (underground, foundations, restoration), delivering inspection-ready work safely, efficiently, and to spec.
The Role (Please read carefully)
This is a high-level hybrid operator role, not a seat-only position.
You will operate equipment regularly. When equipment is not required, you will remain fully utilized assisting the civil crew, supporting field logistics, pre-fab delivery and installation, and other production-critical tasks across the business.
If you are only interested in running a machine and waiting when it’s parked, this role is not a good fit.
Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
• Operate excavators, mini-excavators, skid steers, loaders, rollers/compactors, and related equipment
• Perform trenching, conduit corridors, foundations, equipment pads, and underground utility work for EV/utility scopes
• Hold trench grade and subgrade to spec; execute clean, production-focused excavation
• Safely expose and work around existing utilities (potholing/daylighting, offsets, protection)
• Coordinate daily production with the foreman/superintendent
Civil Crew Support (when not operating)
• Assist with trench prep, backfill, compaction, restoration prep, and jobsite production needs
• Support installation and placement of pre-fabricated materials and site components
• Maintain clean, safe, inspection-ready work areas
Field Logistics
• Support pre-fab staging, delivery coordination, and on-site placement
• Tow equipment and trailers to job sites as required (Class A CDL strongly preferred)
• Assist with equipment readiness: fueling, greasing, inspections, and basic upkeep
• Coordinate with operations/logistics to keep sites properly stocked and ready
Growth & Restoration
• Opportunity to be trained on asphalt restoration and asphalt paving equipment
• Learn patching, paving, compaction, and finish standards expected on commercial EV sites
• Long-term growth into advanced civil, restoration, or lead operator responsibilities
Qualifications
Required
• 5+ years of civil / underground utility equipment operating experience
• Ability to read and interpret civil/utility plans (routes, depths, sections, details, notes)
• Competent grade control using laser/receiver and/or level; able to consistently hold trench grade and subgrade
• Strong understanding of backfill and compaction practices (lifts, coordination, restoration prep)
• Demonstrated experience working around live utilities and active commercial sites
• Willing and capable of supporting the crew when not operating equipment (this is a working civil role)
• Valid CDL Class A with towing experience; clean driving record
• Reliable, professional, safety-first, production-minded
• Must be based in and reside in San Diego County
Strongly Preferred
• Prevailing wage / public works experience
• Asphalt or restoration experience (or strong interest in learning)
Compensation & Benefits
Base Pay
• $45/hr DOE
Overtime
• Overtime opportunities based on project schedules and workload
Benefits (Employer-Provided, after probation period)
• 100% paid health insurance for employee, spouse, and two dependents
• 401(k) with company match
• 4 weeks paid time off per year
• Company truck
• Company phone
Prevailing Wage Upside
A significant portion of our work is prevailing wage public and utility projects, which can materially increase total earnings through higher wage rates and employer-paid fringe benefits depending on project mix.
