The Prince George’s County
Department of Social Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a temporary
IT Specialist, (Community Developer 1G) grade
G18 position, in the
Information Technology Division.
About The Position
The contractor shall perform the services set forth below under the general direction and supervision of the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services. The IT Coordinator is a professional responsible for establishing IT protocols, advising on suitable IT choices, providing technical support and acting as a link between end users and higher-level support.
About The Agency
The Prince George’s County Department of Social Services is in the business of providing opportunities for residents of the County to become independent, responsible and stable members of the community. We do this by providing intervention services that strengthen families, protect children and vulnerable adults, encourage self-sufficiency and promote personal responsibility. We assist our customers through such programs as Temporary Cash Assistance, Food Supplement Program, Medical Assistance, Emergency Assistance, and Foster Care and Adoption Service.
Examples of Work
- Provide technical support to users by researching and answering questions and troubleshooting technical issues including but not limited to VPN, Email, printing, Active Directories, phones, network performance as well as internal business applications.
- Support and maintain different end-user devices including but not limited to workstations, multifunctioning printers, and phones according to the agency's standards and policies.
- Track and document help desk tickets, escalate if necessary, and coordinate all related activities.
- Follow the agency's regulations and procedures to perform any assigned task.
- Manage and maintain IT asset inventory according to the agency's policies.
- The Contractor will comply with all county and departmental policies and procedures and will conduct him/herself in a professional manner at all times.
- Monitor network and system performance, perform regular backups, and manage software/hardware upgrades.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee technical issues, troubleshooting hardware and software, and managing IT inventory.
- Ensure data security through regular backups and maintenance of user access permissions.
- Develop and implement automated workflows, forms, and tools to enhance productivity.
- Coordinate with external technology vendors and manage licenses.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Social Service, Sociology, Psychology, or a closely related field.
- Responsible work experience which includes coordination of group activities, preferably including work with disadvantaged individuals.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class C driver's license.
An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
may be considered.

General Plan Information
The Prince George’s County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.
A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.
Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate. You will also need to submit the birth certificate of the child(ren) and your spouse must be listed as a parent.
The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services).
New employees must enroll in the County’s health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date.
The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the
beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.
After enrolling in the County’s benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
