PURPOSE OF POSITION

Performs a variety of technical and administrative work involving the maintenance of hardware systems and software programs for the Information Technology Division in support of the City's computerized automation programs. Performs evaluation, acquisition, installation, administration, and support for personal computers, peripherals, printers, and other equipment used in the City, including the Police and Fire Department Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs). Work is performed under the general supervision of the Information Technology Director, with limited direct supervision from the Network Administrator.
This position is considered an emergency/disaster position. During emergency conditions, all City employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation, which requires that the employee be ready, willing, and able to report to work during emergencies and/or disasters of any kind, notwithstanding any other commitments the employee may have and be able perform emergency services duties, as assigned.
Essential Job Functions/Other Job Functions
Serves as primary point of contact for all users of the City's computerized automation programs as well as desktops and laptops. Installs and configures operating systems and various application software packages on the user desktops, as applicable. Some network interface and/or configuration/troubleshooting can be required to support the desktops/laptops.
Conducts training and help desk support for employees on existing systems, as well as implementation/support of new systems and/or software packages.
Analyzes systems (both hardware and software) for potential errors and takes appropriate preventive/corrective action. Utilizes electronic work orders for all user trouble reports and associated responses, to include time and date of action(s) and essential information. Completes maintenance repairs as needed in a timely and proficient manner.
Maintains network data backup systems to ensure accurate record-keeping and readiness for emergency network restoration.
Creates, maintains, and updates documentation for enhancements and/or additions to the City’s information systems, as required.
Maintains supporting copies and inventory of all licensed software and license documentation for all City software.
Ensures proper processes and record-keeping for department purchasing, administrative functions, and other applicable Information Technology functions.
Maintains accurate inventory records for all hardware, software, and other miscellaneous equipment, utilizing the electronic inventory system.
Maintains current listing of vendors and contacts for hardware systems, software programs and related equipment, utilizing the departmental electronic rolodex.
Other Job Functions
Attends seminars, workshops and education to maintain technical proficiency related to duties and responsibilities.
Maintains a sufficient inventory of regularly used supplies, including Citywide printer supplies and backup tapes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements
Associate's or higher degree in Computer Science Information Technology, data processing with two (2) years related work experience in the IT field; or two to three (3-4) years of experience in a progressively responsible IT environment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License. Must pass an annual criminal background check, to include but not limited to fingerprinting.
Must also possess the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700 within 30 days of employment and the ICS-100 within 90 days of employment. There may be additional NIMS required, which will be scheduled by your supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant IT certifications such as CompTIA A+ preferred.
Critical Skills/Expertise
Knowledge of information systems, concepts, techniques, cybersecurity and operating principles.
Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations and uses of computers and related equipment.
Ability to conduct troubleshooting, analyze troubleshooting results, detect errors/problems and take proper corrective steps.
Ability to conduct research and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to use the Internet for business and technology analysis.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with departmental contacts.
EQUIPMENT USED
Personal computers and software, office and cellular phones, copy machines, projection equipment, sound equipment and other related tools and equipment.

Work is usually performed in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet and moderate to loud in other city locations. The employee is required to visit/work at other locations within the City.
