Information Technology Support Technician I
Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking an Information Technology Support Technician to support our business operational needs in Norfolk, VA.
The IT Support Technician will provide technical assistance to computer system users and may provide assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, word processing, electronic mail, and operating systems.
Job Description:
- Provide advanced technical support to end users, resolving escalated issues related to hardware, software, networking, and system connectivity.
- Install, configure, and perform intermediate-level repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.
- Set up equipment for employee use, ensuring proper installation of cabling, operating systems, and required software.
- Maintain accurate records of support requests, diagnostic steps, repair actions, and installation activities.
- Perform system diagnostics, read technical manuals, and collaborate with users to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
- Troubleshoot and support printers, scanners, copiers, and multifunction devices.
- Repair and upgrade PC hardware and software, including imaging and deployment.
- Maintain inventory of IT equipment, peripheral devices, and supplies (cables, adapters, accessories, etc.).
- Install, configure, and maintain a variety of IT hardware, including desktops, laptops, printers, cell phones, and additional equipment as required.
- Diagnose complex software and hardware problems and provide solutions in a timely manner.
- Interact with external vendors for repair coordination and support escalation.
- Communicate technical information clearly and professionally to both technical and non‑technical personnel.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on computer systems, networks, and software applications.
- Support users with operational questions or issues related to hardware, software, and systems.
- Assist with system updates, patching, and software rollouts as needed.
- Support IT team initiatives including infrastructure upgrades, system migrations, and project-based assignments.
Qualifications:
- Must have a high school diploma or GED and at least two (2) years of IT support or infrastructure-related experience, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skillset.
- Must have strong technical knowledge of PC and network operating systems, including familiarity with current network hardware, protocols, and industry standards.
- Must have demonstrated experience supporting Microsoft products, business applications, design software, and print management software.
- Must have an in-depth understanding of data privacy practices and relevant regulatory standards.
- Must have hands-on experience performing advanced troubleshooting across various computing environments, familiarity with a wide range of PCs and peripherals.
- Must have demonstrated reliability in attendance, task completion, and follow-through.
- Must have strong problem-solving skills with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently on more advanced technical issues with minimal supervision and assist other Tier 1 staff when needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Deltek accounting systems and access control systems preferred.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements:
- Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Climb, Reach, Push and Pull, Stoop, Crawl, Kneel, Balance, Lift and Carry various objects and equipment.
- General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 50% of the time.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available, but also requires safe navigation and regular partnership with operations teams within shipyard/industrial environments.
- Movement through the yard often requires personal protective equipment.
- Lighting and temperature are adequate and there is minimal exposure to unpleasant conditions caused by noise and dust.
