Computer Network Specialist I, so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!
The main purpose of this job is to provide Tier 1 Customer Support to over 2,000 DJS staff and vendors who utilize the DJS network, applications and software. This position assists, troubleshoots and resolves user software, hardware and network issues and if not able to resolve, escalates to Tier 2 through four as necessary. This position also, provides account management and tracking to ensure appropriate staff have access to the network, software and hardware to do their jobs. This position also provides some inventory management and vendor manage to support their job functions.
Some key responsibilities of this position may include, but not be limited, to the following:
- Provides Tier 1 level phone and email support statewide to assist, troubleshoot and resolve user software and hardware, network and technical issues; and escalates work orders to the correct tier group 2 through 4 as necessary.
- Provides Account Management, ensuring users have access to all the requested software and applications required to do their jobs.
- Provides appropriate training to staff, as well as necessary user instruction and support.
This position is eligible to work a hybrid telework schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Two years of experience, six months of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks and an additional eighteen months of experience converting data from project specifications by preparing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools; planning, installing and maintaining data communications network lines and devices; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software.

- Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and fifteen credit hours from an accredited college or university in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the additional eighteen months of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute completion of high school or high school equivalency certificate and completion of a certification program in Network Administration, such as Certified Novell Administrator (CNA), Microsoft Certified Product Specialist NT 4.0 Administrator or equivalent certification program for the additional eighteen months of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute experience in one of the following areas on a year-for-year basis for a high school education: operating computer systems, scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining backups or data storage, processing data on computer systems, evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software or converting data from project specifications by developing programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree in computer information technology, management information systems, or other information technology related field, including course work in local or wide area computer network, from an accredited college or university and six months of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Network Analyst classifications or Network Integration and Management specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
Desired Or Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate for this position may possess any of the following qualifications:
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Familiar with updating helpdesk ticketing systems. (e.g., ServiceDesk Plus, SpiceWorks)
- Experience with VPNs
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts such as TCP/IP.
- Experience with remote support tools (e.g., SCCM, Team Viewer)
