Job Summary
The mission of the Department of Youth and Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) is to improve public safety and give court-involved youth the opportunity to become more productive citizens by building on the strengths of youth and their families in the least restrictive, most homelike environment consistent with public safety.
This position is within the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services’ Office of Information Management. The purpose of the position is to provide technical support to DYRS by engineering and implementing solutions to complex projects and all agency initiatives in improving the service delivery model and reducing operational costs.
Duties And Responsibilities
The IT Specialist creates, updates, tests and deploys standard desktop, laptop and tablet PC images. Within this role, the incumbent identifies, develops, and implements work-around solutions to incompatibility issues with agency-specific and enterprise applications. Interfaces with vendors to build system images for specific hardware. Driving technology integration initiatives and configures solutions. Acts as first point of contact between other departments in service delivery matters. Additionally, the incumbent acts as an escalation point for special project teams and technical staff members and develops and documents solutions to specific project tasks as required by senior management and task groups. Such tasks may include: streamlining application installation, automating technical tasks via scripting, operating system deployment, integrating new systems and applications from legacy environments, and establishing standard operating procedures and training affected staff.
Qualifications And Education
Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management,
or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
or Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

- Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively.
- Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must be equivalent to the next lower grade in the normal line of progression.

Position Designation: The incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability - Security Sensitive.
Residency Preference: When claiming residency preference, you are required, and must agree in writing, to maintain bona fide District residency for a period of seven (7) consecutive years from the effective date of employment. You will be required to present documents (proofs) to show District residency and failure to maintain bona-fide District residency for the seven-year (7-year) period will result in forfeiture of employment.
