The Sr. Tax Technologist, working under limited supervision, conducts and documents complex tax accounting projects, analyzes financial data, and implements best practices to minimize liabilities and improve departmental efficiency. They support data visualization and reporting, automate tax processes using tools like Python and SQL, and performs both Ad Valorem tax compliance and Indirect Tax systems maintenance. The role also documents process flows and identifies opportunities for automation and process improvement within the tax function.
EDUCATION
Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Management, Management Information Systems, or Marketing or commensurate experience required
A minimum of 12-hours in accounting or finance are required
A minor in Management Information Systems or commensurate experience is required
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare Ad Valorem tax renditions, including preparation of supporting detail work papers and schedules
Perform implementation, configuration, and optimization of indirect tax databases, software applications, and programming
Gather and interpret tax-relevant data from Devon’s financial and operational reporting systems and applications
Assist in extracting, organizing, and preparing tax data from various internal and external sources using ETL tools, LLM, and agentic AI
Download and organize transaction information, such as invoices, to support sales/use tax audits and refund claims
Support the creation and maintenance of data visualizations and reports, collaborating with Corporate Reporting & Analytics Operations as needed
Develop and maintain scripts or software tools (e.g., Python, SQL) to automate tax processes under supervision
Maintain and troubleshoot Indirect Tax databases and systems
Document process flows and help identify opportunities for automation and process improvement
Ensure accuracy in data collection and reporting to support tax compliance
Provide support and training to tax teams on new technologies and tools
Stay informed about technology trends relevant to the tax field
Communicate data-related matters with tax teams and IT to support alignment of technology initiatives
Participate in Accounting & Tax Technology team projects and as
assist with special assignments as needed
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Experience with Agentic AI, Alteryx, AI, Databricks, PowerBI, SAP S/4HANA, SSMS, or a combination is preferred
At least 4 years of professional experience in accounting, finance, or tax
Self-motivated and thrives in collaborative team settings and can work independently
Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
Welcomes constructive feedback and review of tax workpapers, renditions, and returns
Demonstrates strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills
Embraces continuous improvement, innovation, and challenges existing processes

Requires a minimum of four days per week on-site presence at the Oklahoma City headquarters office
