Description and FunctionsOpen Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Wyoming Department of Corrections is seeking a Correctional Investigative Captain. This position works for the Investigative Services Unit (ISU) in consultation with the other Division Administrators. This position is vital to the security of the agency and must rapidly assess, monitor, and develop intelligence quickly and accurately. This position is responsible for the oversight of the Security Threat Group (STG) management program and intelligence for the Wyoming Department of Corrections.

- Review document STG-related activities, including assaults, extortion, and other incidents.
- Monitor and observe the association with suspected STG inmates and offenders on community supervision
- Review and monitor gang-related signs, symbols, codes, and other forms of unauthorized communications
- Review staff reports, investigation reports, incident reports, use of force reports, and other available information to gather data and intelligence
- Determine and classify information into various types of intelligence and distribute pertinent information to staff as necessary
- Maintain files on STG inmates and offenders on community supervision
- Attend and participate in local, state, and federal law enforcement briefings, including the Joint Terrorism Task Force, to promote inter-agency cooperation. As well as the Wyoming Information and Analysis Team (WIAT).
- Preparation of intelligence briefs for the WDOC command staff is done regularly.
- Provide annual training to staff on trends, current activity, identify concerns, and possible solutions.
- Manage training funds.
- Supervision of the WDOC Intelligence Analyst.
- Assist and coordinate WDOC intelligence efforts related to escaped inmates in conjunction with the Wyoming Intelligence Analysis Team and other Law Enforcement agencies.
QualificationsPREFERENCES: Preference may be given to those who have a minimum of three years of work experience at a Correctional facility and have prior Security Threat Group experience.
Must be POST certified within 1 year of employment.
KNOWLEDGE:- Knowledge of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of state and federal government.
- Exceptional organizational, delegation, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and work effectively in high-stress situations.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge of the agency's mission, goals, and strategic planning process.
- Knowledge of the State's Budget process.
- Knowledge of research methods and practice.
- Skills in working with data systems, computer technology, and various software programs.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and agency policies, procedures, and laws related to intelligence gathering, as well as oversight of an STG program in a correctional setting.
- Ability to independently conduct work, understand intelligence and intelligence gathering techniques, as well as WDOC classification and housing within the agency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in Criminal Justice)
Experience:1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Correctional Security) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional Investigative Lieutenant
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Required to be certified as a correctional officer (basic, advanced, or professional) through the Wyoming Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Department
OR Education & Experience Substitution:4-7 years of progressive work experience (typically in Correctional Security) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional Investigative Lieutenant
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Required to be certified as a correctional officer (basic, advanced, or professional) through the Wyoming Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Department
