Description and FunctionsOpen Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a unique opportunity for a Registered Nurse to help and serve Wyoming residents! This position provides instruction, oversight, and management of our Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program. WLRC currently serves Wyoming residents in an Intermediate Care Facility and a newly constructed Skilled Nursing Facility. - Develop and facilitate the CNA program at the Wyoming Life Resource Center (WLRC).
- Instruct students according to the curriculum designed to assist students in building knowledge and clinical skills aimed at passing the licensing exam for Wyoming CNA.
- Assist students in registering for the Wyoming CNA exam.
- Facilitate clinical rotations and skills labs to evaluate CNA competency.
- Monitor CNAs in their work area to provide support and ensure competency of knowledge and skills.
- Maintain accurate records on all students, including attendance, schedules, and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content.
- Evaluate students' progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained.
- Communicate effectively with students and all those affiliated with the course.
- Provide a stimulating environment that encourages student participation, interpersonal skills development, and concepts of good patient care.
- Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and nursing management to ensure all Wyoming State Board of Nursing standards are met for CNA training and their ongoing continuing education as dictated by the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act.
- Keep abreast of nursing practice standards, Intermediate Care Facility (ICF), Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) standards, and WLRC policies, procedures, and protocols.
- As requested, assist the Director of Nursing, Infection Preventionist, and Nurse Educator with special projects and/or teaching commitments.
- Assist with the development of policy and procedures for implementing specific programs; orient new staff to the programs, policies, and procedures.
- Contribute to the development of relevant nursing protocols to provide clinical care and teaching materials for groups and individuals.
QualificationsKNOWLEDGE: - Knowledge of principles of nursing and management processes.
- Knowledge of ICF and SNF regulations, the Nurse Practice Act, and state and facility policies and procedures.
- Ability to develop nursing plans of care utilizing the nursing process.
- Skills in training, teaching, and interpretation of information.
- Skills in creating a learning environment.
- Knowledge of and ability to operate medical equipment.
- Skills in time management, organization, and computer usage.
- Ability to communicate positively and effectively with students, staff, clients, and the public.
- Ability to accept personal responsibility and accountability for decision-making on a daily basis.
- Ability to complete assigned duties and recognize when further consultation/assistance is needed to complete assigned tasks.
- Knowledge of organization, planning, and team building.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of public health nursing.
- Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in Nursing)
Experience:1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Nurse
OR Education & Experience Substitution:4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Nurse
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming
Necessary Special RequirementsPHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Must be able to:
- Safely move (twisting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling), position, and lift people with multiple and severe disabilities.
- Ability to monitor residents' sounds, noises, locations, etc. to ensure safety and assess imminent danger and emerging concerns.
- Ability to perform C.P.R., First Aid, Crisis Management, and utilize proper infection control practices.
- Work evenings, nights, and /or weekends when the situation requires it.
