JB General Engineering Development Inc. is seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and detail-oriented Part-Time Architectural Designer / Drafter to support our active residential design and construction projects.

We are looking for a qualified professional with demonstrated experience in residential architectural drafting and working proficiency in both AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit. The successful candidate must be capable of producing accurate, professional-quality drawings and documentation with minimal supervision.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES EXISTING PROFESSIONAL-LEVEL TECHNICAL COMPETENCY. IT IS NOT AN ENTRY-LEVEL OR BASIC SOFTWARE TRAINING POSITION.

We expect applicants to arrive with the technical knowledge, practical experience, and independent working ability necessary to contribute to active projects from the start. We do not provide basic instruction in AutoCAD, Revit, or fundamental architectural drafting concepts.

Candidates will be evaluated on their demonstrated qualifications, relevant experience, technical proficiency, and ability to perform the essential responsibilities of the position.

1. PROFESSIONALISM & STRICT NO-GOSSIP POLICY

Professionalism is mandatory. We do not tolerate workplace gossip, unnecessary drama, personal attacks, or unprofessional conduct that undermines our team, clients, or business relationships.

JB General Engineering Development Inc. maintains high expectations for workplace conduct, communication, discretion, and accountability. We expect employees to focus on their responsibilities, treat colleagues respectfully, and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.

Workplace gossip and disrespectful conduct

The following behavior is unacceptable:

Spreading malicious rumors or making personal attacks against coworkers.

Engaging in gossip that undermines colleagues, damages professional relationships, or disrupts the workplace.

Creating unnecessary workplace drama, stirring up personal conflicts, or attempting to turn coworkers against one another.

Engaging in bullying, harassment, intimidation, insults, or deliberately disrespectful behavior.

Allowing personal disagreements to interfere with project execution, deadlines, teamwork, or client service.

Using company time to engage in disruptive personal disputes instead of completing assigned responsibilities.

Employees are expected to treat coworkers and professional peers respectfully, regardless of personal differences. Employees are not required to be friends with everyone, but they must be capable of working professionally with others.

Legitimate workplace complaints, good-faith reports of misconduct, legally protected discussions about working conditions, and other legally protected employee activities are not prohibited by this policy.

Professional communication with clients

Employees represent JB General Engineering Development Inc. when communicating with clients and project stakeholders. All interactions must remain professional, appropriate, and consistent with company policies.

Employees must not:

Communicate with clients in a disrespectful, hostile, insulting, or otherwise unprofessional manner.

Solicit clients for unauthorized personal work or divert company business for personal gain.

Establish unauthorized private business arrangements that create conflicts of interest.

Disclose confidential company, project, or client information.

Allow personal disputes or unrelated personal matters to interfere with client relationships.

Client lunches, entertainment, social outings, and other nonessential personal interactions require prior management approval during an active project.

Client communication during an active project must remain within the scope of assigned work or another legitimate, authorized business purpose. Employees must not independently initiate or maintain unrelated personal or social contact with clients during an active project without authorization.

Legitimate project coordination, necessary professional communication, and approved business-development activities remain permissible.

After a project concludes, additional social or professional interaction may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to applicable company policies, confidentiality obligations, and conflict-of-interest requirements.

Accountability and following directions

Employees must understand instructions, complete assignments accurately, and take responsibility for their work.

We expect employees to complete routine assignments without constant reminders, repeated explanations of basic procedures, or continuous supervision. Appropriate technical questions are encouraged when project requirements are genuinely unclear.

Employees must communicate issues promptly, accept constructive feedback, correct mistakes, and remain accountable for the quality and completeness of their work.

Serious or repeated policy violations may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination, consistent with applicable law and company policy.

2. WORK SCHEDULE & LOCATION

Location: Santa Ana, California.

Schedule: Three days working in the office, followed by three days working outside the office, on a rotating six-day cycle.

In-office requirement: Employees must reliably report to the office on all scheduled in-office days.

Outside-office days: These are working days, not days off. Employees must fulfill their assigned responsibilities according to the established work arrangement.

Applicants must be dependable, punctual, and capable of maintaining consistent productivity throughout the work cycle.

3. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Architectural Designer / Drafter will assist with the preparation, development, and revision of residential architectural drawings and construction documents, including:

Communicating project requirements, revisions, and technical concerns clearly to the project team.

Applicants must be capable of producing professional-quality work using both required software applications and meeting project requirements with minimal supervision.

4. REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS: AUTOCAD AND AUTODESK REVIT

AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit are both mandatory requirements. Neither is optional, and proficiency in one does not substitute for proficiency in the other.

The position requires practical competency in both applications, with approximately 50% of the technical workload involving AutoCAD and 50% involving Revit. The exact distribution may vary depending on project requirements.

AutoCAD: Approximately 50% of the technical workload

Applicants must demonstrate strong working proficiency in AutoCAD, including:

Producing, modifying, and revising residential architectural drawings.

Developing floor plans, elevations, sections, details, and site plans.

Reading and interpreting architectural and construction drawings.

Working accurately with dimensions, scales, annotations, layers, line weights, and drawing layouts.

Translating measurements, sketches, specifications, and technical instructions into accurate drawings.

Maintaining organized drawing files and professional drafting standards.

Identifying errors, incorporating revisions, and meeting deadlines.

Autodesk Revit: Approximately 50% of the technical workload

Applicants must also demonstrate practical working proficiency in Autodesk Revit, including:

Developing architectural models for residential projects.

Creating and modifying building elements and architectural views.

Producing plans, elevations, sections, and related documentation.

Working with model-based documentation and drawing revisions.

Maintaining organized project models and documentation.

Interpreting project requirements and implementing changes accurately.

Coordinating model information with construction documentation requirements.

No basic software training

This position requires applicants to possess the necessary technical knowledge before starting.

We do not provide basic AutoCAD or Revit instruction, teach fundamental drafting concepts, or offer continuous step-by-step supervision for routine assignments.

Applicants must be able to understand technical direction, apply existing knowledge, work independently, and deliver accurate results.

Simply listing AutoCAD or Revit on a résumé is insufficient. Candidates must demonstrate their actual proficiency through relevant experience, work samples, and a practical skills assessment if required.

Applicants must demonstrate competency in both applications to qualify for this position.

5. EXPERIENCE & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

We are seeking an individual with demonstrated experience and the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position at a professional level.

The ideal candidate will:

Have practical experience preparing residential architectural drawings and construction documents.

Demonstrate working proficiency in both AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.

Independently produce accurate drawings and architectural models.

Understand technical instructions and implement revisions correctly.

Take responsibility for the quality and accuracy of assigned work.

Work productively with minimal supervision.

Manage deadlines and multiple assignments effectively.

Communicate professionally with clients, colleagues, and management.

Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients.

Follow workplace policies and contribute to a respectful, productive environment.

Meet the required in-office and outside-office schedule.

Applicants must possess the practical skills necessary to perform the job upon hiring. Academic coursework, certificates, or software familiarity alone do not establish qualification without the required demonstrated competency.

All applicants will be evaluated using the same job-related technical requirements and professional standards. Enrollment in an educational program neither automatically qualifies nor disqualifies an applicant; demonstrated ability to perform the work is the determining factor.

6. HOW TO APPLY

Please submit your résumé and a brief summary of your relevant residential architectural drafting experience.

Include:

Your AutoCAD experience and demonstrated proficiency.

Your Autodesk Revit experience and demonstrated proficiency.

Your experience preparing residential architectural drawings and construction documents.

Examples of relevant work, such as floor plans, elevations, sections, site plans, and Revit models. Remove confidential client information and submit only materials you are authorized to share.

Confirmation that you can meet the three-days-in-office, three-days-outside-office schedule.

Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate their proficiency in both AutoCAD and Revit during the selection process.

Applications will be evaluated based on relevant experience, demonstrated technical competency, ability to perform the job responsibilities, and adherence to professional workplace expectations.

JB General Engineering Development Inc. is seeking a technically competent, dependable, and professional individual who knows the work, follows directions, respects colleagues, maintains appropriate client relationships, and takes pride in producing accurate results.

Both software skills are required. Professional conduct is required. The ability to work independently and deliver quality work is required.
