Position Overview
We’re looking for a Head of IT/Security who thrives in the fast pace of an early-stage startup while also being fluent in government security, compliance, and defense-sector requirements. This is a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves role: you’ll be the architect, the implementer, and the strategist all at once. Your mandate will be to build the foundation for our long-term security posture while solving today’s problems.

Role

Lead our FedRAMP High efforts in tandem with our security platform partners
Identify and mitigate data graduation risks across unclassified, CUI, and classified environments
Lead efforts to achieve and maintain DD254 and Facilities Clearance (FCL)
Build and manage controls aligned with SOC II, NIST, CMMC and other frameworks
Serve as the primary point of contact for security due diligence with investors, government stakeholders, and primes
Build out and own best-in-class in-person and remote IT security measures ensuring MDM, VPN, and on-premise security are properly configured

Responsibilities

Own the company’s IT, cybersecurity, and compliance roadmap
Stand up internal IT operations and policies for a growing, distributed team
Lead vendor selection, system integration, and audits across environments
Drive government compliance initiatives (FedRAMP, CMMC, SOC-II, etc.)
Manage relationships with government security officers and primes for DD254/FCL requirements
Respond to and prepare for security questionnaires, audits, and investor diligence
Evaluate risks and implement pragmatic security solutions that balance speed with compliance
Act as both an individual contributor (hands on keyboard) and a strategic leader

Qualifications

7+ years in IT/Security, with direct experience in government/defense environments
Proven knowledge of FedRAMP, NIST 800-171, CMMC, DFARS, and ATO processes
Familiarity with DD254, FCL, and classified environment security requirements
Experience scaling IT/security in small or early-stage startups - comfortable being scrappy
Strong technical background in networking, cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud, AWS, GovCloud, IL4/IL6), endpoint management, and security tooling
Excellent communicator who can brief both engineers and leadership
