Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Composite Layup Technician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will precision-fabricate high-performance composite structures from carbon fiber, fiberglass, and Kevlar under strict AS9100 quality guidelines. You will work closely with engineering blueprints to execute precise hand layups, vacuum bagging, and curing cycles using advanced production equipment.
Key Responsibilities
• Fabrication: Execute precise hand layups of composite materials using prepregs.
• Tooling Prep: Clean, prep, and apply release agents to molds, mandrels, and production tooling.
• Equipment Operation: Operate and monitor autoclaves and curing ovens according to specific cure cycle recipes.
• Material Preparation: Set up and operate CNC ply cutters to efficiently nest and cut composite materials.
• Vacuum Bagging: Apply bagging materials, breathers, sealant tapes, and thermocouples; perform leak tests to ensure high-vacuum integrity.
• Blueprint Reading: Interpret complex engineering drawings, ply books, work instructions, and geometric tolerances.
• Quality & Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to AS9100 quality management standards, inspecting plies for fiber orientation, wrinkles, contamination, or voids.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate production logs, traceability records, and material shelf-life data.
Qualifications & Skills
• Experience: Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in composite layup within aerospace or defense industries.
• Quality Standards: Strong working knowledge of AS9100 compliance requirements.
• Equipment Proficiency: Direct experience operating autoclaves and CNC ply cutters is highly preferred.
• Material Expertise: Proven experience with carbon fiber, fiberglass, epoxy resins, and core materials (honeycomb/foam).
• Technical Skills: Proficiency using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers) and cutting equipment.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, maintain manual dexterity for intricate ply placement, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; composite fabrication certification is a strong plus.
